Golden-crowned Sparrows

No, I'm not blogging about Golden-crowned Sparrows just to taunt my friends in the Midwest and on the East Coast who don't have these beauties -- it's just that I've had so many lately, it seems selfish not to share! They arrive in the fall and then eat themselves silly through winter. And don't miss the last photo in this series to see just why they're candidates for Weight Watchers by the time they're through! Lifers for many of you, but a commonly seen bird for me, please enjoy these Golden-crowned Sparrow images.

  1. Lucky you! A splash of color during the cold months. Such pretty birds. Love the first photo with its mouth open. I can even see the sparrows tongue. Lovely ground shots too. Splendid captures perched on a thorny branch. Beautiful series of photographs, Jann!

  2. I consider that taunting still!

Such a cool bird. I did get to see one in Dec 09 during the Nampa, Idaho Christmas Bird Count.

  4. Lovely shots, particularly the third one! I have yet to see one; they don't visit Vermont. And green grass! Is it spring already where you are?

  6. Jann, I love this post on the Golden-crowned Sparrows. Neat pics and info! I looked up their range map and see that they should be in Seattle during the winter. I will be looking for one! Thanks Jann!
